Holy Week - Palm Sunday - Passion Service

Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter that begins the Holy Week. It is the day that we remember and celebrate the day Jesus entered into Jerusalem as Savior and King. As Jesus rode a donkey into the town of Jerusalem a large crowd gathered and laid palm branches and their cloaks across the road, giving Jesus royal treatment. The hundreds of people shouted "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"

Holy Week - Tenebrae Service

The word "tenebrae" comes from the Latin meaning "darkness." The Tenebrae is an ancient Christian Good Friday service that makes use of gradually diminishing light through the extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of that week from the triumphant Palm Sunday entry through Jesus' burial.

This increasing darkness announces the approaching darkness of Jesus' death and of hopelessness in the world without God. Our service concludes in darkness, except for one candle, the Christ candle, carried out of the sanctuary, symbolizing the death of Jesus. A loud noise occurs symbolizing the closing of Jesus' tomb. We then leave in silence to ponder the impact of Christ's death and await the coming Resurrection.

Join us as we reflect on the series of events prior to Jesus’ death during our Good Friday Service at 12pm. During this time we will process through the stations of the cross. Each stations is an opportunity to contemplate Jesus’ suffering in preparation for his sacrifice for our sins.

The stations in the Way of the Cross are: 1) Jesus is condemned to death; 2) Jesus takes up his cross; 3) Jesus falls the first time; 4) Jesus meets his afflicted mother; 5) the cross is laid on Simon of Cyrene; 6) a woman wipes the face of Jesus; 7) Jesus falls a second time; 8) Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem; 9) Jesus falls a third time; 10) Jesus is stripped of his garments; 11) Jesus is nailed to the cross; 12) Jesus dies on the cross; 13) the body of Jesus is placed in the arms of his mother; 14) Jesus is laid in the tomb.
